LELIA TRUE

Brings a rare blend of battlefield-tested leadership, strategic expertise, and a lifelong dedication to service to every challenge she takes on.

Combat Veteran

Lelia began her military career at the West Point United States Military Academy and commissioned into the Signal Corps after graduating. She was airborne and air assault qualified, and went on to command a tactical communications company during Operation Desert Storm and earn the Bronze Star Medal for exceptionally meritorious service in a war zone. Lelia led her unit in some of the Army’s most demanding environments, an experience that shaped her belief in service, accountability, and teamwork. Today, she brings that same mission-driven approach to her work in the civilian world and to her commitment to Montgomery County.

Executive

After earning a dual MS/MBA from Purdue University, Lelia went on to spend over twenty years in corporate leadership, including  senior director roles at Comcast  where she managed $190 million operations, eliminated $12 million in waste, and boosted efficiency by 28%. Whether leading large teams or serving as a substitute teacher and coach as she does today, Lelia centers her work on mentorship, equity, and elevating diverse voices.

Educator

Continuing her commitment to supporting young people, Lelia spent more than six years in leadership roles at the Washington Waldorf School in Bethesda, MD. During her tenure, she guided the school through the challenges of Covid and led a successful $7 million capital campaign,  strengthening a community rooted in academic excellence, artistic development, and social responsibility. Today, she continues to serve students directly as a substitute teacher.

She continues to mentor young people as a basketball coach at Winston Churchill High School where she supports student-athletes in developing their skills both on and off the field with the same steady leadership she’s demonstrated throughout her career. A lifelong lover of sports herself, you can catch Lelia playing ice hockey, tennis, softball, and squash in her free time.
